💔 Starved, Weak, and Forgotten: Emaciated Husky Kyro Suffers for Months Before Rescue 🐺😭
In one of the most distressing cases of neglect seen in Aberdeen this year, a young husky named Kyro was found in a horrifying state — skeletal, weak, and clinging to life after enduring weeks, possibly months, of starvation.
On Monday, 14 July, Deborah Duncan and Reece Gordon, both of Aberdeen, stood trial at Peterhead Sheriff Court and were found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to Kyro, their two-year-old grey male husky. The pair have now been banned from owning dogs for three years, sentenced to 96 hours of unpaid work, with Gordon also receiving a 12-month supervision order.

Kyro’s tragic condition came to light when Duncan brought him to the PDSA after he had stopped eating for several days and hadn’t had water in four. After emergency surgery to remove a foreign object from his stomach, he was referred to Vets Now in Aberdeen, where staff were shocked by his emaciated appearance — his ribs, spine, and pelvic bones were all visibly protruding.
The Scottish SPCA quickly intervened, removing Kyro from the home to provide urgent medical attention and care. According to one inspector, Kyro’s suffering wasn’t just a result of the recent illness.

“The vet found Kyro’s condition could not be explained solely by the stomach obstruction. His lack of muscle mass suggested long-term malnutrition,” the inspector said. “In a healthy state, Kyro should have weighed around 22kg. His extreme thinness was clearly visible and easily identifiable by any reasonable person.”
Shockingly, the court heard that despite Duncan admitting Kyro hadn’t eaten for over a week, the couple failed to seek veterinary care until it was far too late.
“Kyro should have been brought to a vet much sooner. He was visibly underweight, weak, and clearly suffering,” said the SPCA. “This was prolonged and entirely avoidable cruelty.”
💔 Let Kyro’s story be a reminder: neglect is suffering — and silence allows it to continue. Speak up for those who can’t. 🐾
