FRISCO, TX – Training camp hasn’t even started, and already a bombshell has dropped in Dallas.
Cowboys rookie Jaden Blue, a fifth-round pick expected to add speed and explosiveness to the backfield, is at the center of a media firestorm after an article from The Landry Hat, citing former Cowboys coach Glenn “Stretch” Smith, labeled the young running back “borderline lazy.”

The claim, which aired via the Locked On Cowboys podcast and was echoed by Landry Hat writer Marcus Mosher, immediately sparked backlash among fans and media watchdogs alike.
Many called out the report as baseless and harmful, especially given that Blue hasn’t yet taken a single preseason snap in a Cowboys uniform.
Blue himself didn’t stay quiet. In a sharp and confident clapback on social media, the Texas product wrote:
“They gonna feel me real soon. Production quiets all the noise.”
He also mocked the claim in a separate post, writing:
“Laughing my ass off. Taking time out your day to make a fake article about me for attention.”
The rookie’s response struck a chord with fans, many of whom pointed to Blue’s well-documented work ethic from his high school and college days, including gathering teammates to train during the COVID lockdowns in 2020.
In defense of Blue, Cowboys wide receiver W. Thomas added fuel to the fire, writing:
“Them ‘ex-coaches’ lame as hell. Lil bro ain’t had one issue on or off the field. People just lie for free.”
Former Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also spoke highly of Blue in previous interviews, describing him as a “guy who comes to work every day, loves football, and is a great teammate.”

Critics of the original article argue that it reeks of offseason filler content and clickbait, especially since the Cowboys have notoriously kept in-house matters locked down under the new coaching regime. With over 95% of the staff turned over in 2024, many question how a former coach like Smith would have any credible source inside the building.
“You expect me to believe someone snitched on a rookie during OTAs? Nah, bro,” one fan wrote.
The broader concern? That negative narratives like this — especially aimed at young, unproven players — can derail careers before they even start.
With training camp opening July 22, Jaden Blue will finally have the chance to let his game speak.
And from the sound of it, he’s more than ready.
