According to eyewitness accounts, Harry Maguire was dining with his family and a small group of close friends at a well-known restaurant in the heart of Manchester when the incident unfolded. While the England international was enjoying his meal, a group of football fans — believed to have just left a nearby pub — recognized him and approached his table.
At first, the fans’ approach appeared friendly. They asked for photographs, shook hands, and exchanged a few light-hearted remarks. However, the atmosphere quickly shifted when a couple of individuals began making pointed jokes about Maguire’s recent performances, particularly referencing some of his high-profile mistakes from last season.
Witnesses at the scene said Maguire initially kept his composure. He smiled awkwardly, attempting to defuse the tension and avoid drawing unwanted attention. But matters escalated when one of the supporters stepped too close, reportedly placing a hand on Maguire’s shoulder while making an inappropriate comment.

At that point, Maguire stood up in response, leading to a heated verbal exchange. Voices were raised, and within seconds, the confrontation spiraled into a physical altercation.
Restaurant staff quickly called the police. When officers arrived, Maguire and several of the involved fans were escorted to the local police station to provide statements. A few individuals sustained minor injuries and were taken for medical evaluation.
The underlying cause of the incident is still under investigation. However, multiple sources have suggested that the group of supporters had a history of posting negative comments about Maguire on social media and may have been deliberately seeking an opportunity to provoke him in public.
Manchester United has yet to issue an official statement. The incident, however, has already become a hot topic across British media, especially given Maguire’s long-standing status as one of the most scrutinized and criticized players in English football.
