TikTok has officially announced that Lil Tay’s account – once known as “the richest girl on the Internet” – will be permanently banned after a series of videos were judged to be controversial and inappropriate for the young user community. Specifically, some clips were said to have provocative content, excessive boasting, and language inappropriate for teenagers.

This information quickly caused a storm on social media. While many people agreed with TikTok’s decision because they thought Lil Tay was “no longer suitable for the platform”, many fans were angry, thinking that she was being unreasonably censored. But what shocked everyone was Lil Tay’s reaction immediately after.
Just a few hours after receiving the ban, Lil Tay posted a story on Instagram with the shocking caption: “Fine. I’ll buy my own platform.” (“Okay. I’ll buy my own platform.”) The email was accompanied by a screenshot of an email that was reportedly in talks with a rival social media app to TikTok – though it has not been verified.

“Tay has been quietly investing in tech for almost a year,” a source close to the matter said. “Her ban from TikTok just spurred her on.” Rumors have even swirled that she is looking to acquire or invest heavily in a new Gen Z app where users can share content without fear of “unreasonable censorship.”
The bold move has divided opinion. Some say it’s just a “PR stunt” to attract attention and rekindle Lil Tay’s cooled popularity after years of silence. Supporters, meanwhile, see it as a manifestation of the rebellious spirit that she’s known for as a child, daring to challenge the big platforms.
TikTok, however, has stood firm. A company spokesperson put it succinctly: “We put the community first. No exceptions, even for celebrities.” This suggests that the battle between Lil Tay and TikTok may be long-running.

For now, Lil Tay remains active on Instagram and X (Twitter), constantly sharing messages affirming her creative freedom. “They can block my account, but they can’t block my legacy,” she wrote.
