After more than two decades away, Chicago Cubs legend Shawon Dunston has officially returned to Wrigley Field, but not with a glove in hand, but with a new love of his profession: coaching. The entire city breathed a sigh of relief as the old warrior not only recovered from his health challenges, but also returned to a familiar place — where he once ignited his passion for baseball with his extraordinary heart.

Dunston was once expected to be the Cubs’ hottest shortstop in the 1980s–1990s, with his cross-field throw and speed that made the crowd swoon. Now, wearing a coaching jersey, he shared with emotion: “This place, this city — they shaped me. Now, I want to bring it all back.”
Dunston’s path has not been easy as he has recently faced serious health issues off the field. But despite the curveballs of life, he persevered: “Life throws you curveballs, but you don’t give up — you adapt, you fight, and you move forward. If my story inspires just one person, that’s all.”

More than just a coach, Dunston is a living spark that rekindles the fire in the hearts of the young Cubs. One infielder enthused: “Having Shawon here is like plugging in a battery — his energy is contagious. When he’s around, you just want to play your best.”
His return is more than a tactical turning point, it’s a spiritual inspiration. When the Cubs need a symbol of dedication and unity, Dunston is the perfect answer — a legend returning to lead, to be reborn, and to continue writing memories with the fans.
