Authorities have confirmed that Alec and Stephen Baldwin are now in police custody following their involvement in a multi-vehicle crash in East Hampton late Saturday night. The incident, which left several vehicles damaged and two people hospitalized, has quickly escalated into a serious criminal investigation after officers discovered a small amount of a suspicious white substance inside the Baldwin brothers’ car.

According to East Hampton Police Chief Darren Cole, officers responding to the crash scene detected what appeared to be narcotics residue near the driver’s seat. “The substance has been sent to the state lab for analysis,” Chief Cole said in a brief statement early Sunday morning. “We are also awaiting toxicology results from both occupants, which could change the entire direction of the investigation.”
Witnesses described the chaotic scene as “total mayhem,” with at least three vehicles involved in the crash near Springs-Fireplace Road. The Baldwin brothers’ car reportedly struck a black SUV, spun out of control, and then collided with a roadside barrier. Several bystanders claimed the brothers appeared “agitated and confused” when they exited the vehicle, and officers noted signs of possible impairment during their initial questioning.

Both Alec and Stephen were treated for minor injuries at Southampton Hospital before being taken into custody for further questioning. Police sources say they are cooperating but appeared “emotionally unstable” when interviewed. Investigators have since obtained a warrant to search their vehicle and personal belongings, looking for evidence that might clarify what led to the crash.
Local residents expressed shock at the unfolding events, especially given the Baldwins’ public profile in the Hamptons community. “You never expect something like this to happen here,” said one neighbor. “The flashing lights, the sirens—it felt unreal, like a movie scene.”

As of this morning, police have not announced any formal charges, but officials confirmed that blood test results and lab analysis of the white substance are expected within 48 hours. Depending on the findings, the Baldwin brothers could face charges ranging from reckless endangerment to possession of illegal substances. The investigation remains active, and authorities say more information will be released as the case develops.
