I remember the day I first met you… a moment so small, yet it changed everything. You were nothing more than a tiny heartbeat, warm and delicate, resting in the palm of my hand. I held you carefully, afraid to blink, afraid the world would move too fast and I’d miss a second of you. And somehow, even then, I knew—my life had just been split into “before you” and “after you.”

Today, you are 17 years old. Seventeen. I look at you and I still see pieces of that tiny heartbeat, but now wrapped in strength, personality, dreams, and a spirit that continues to surprise me. Sometimes, when you look back at me, I can’t believe how quickly the years have passed. How did we go from bedtime stories to late-night conversations? From teaching you to walk to watching you chase your own future?
This cake, these candles, this celebration—every bit of it is for you. But the truth is, your existence has always been the greatest celebration of my life. You brought color where there was gray, hope where there were doubts, and a kind of love I didn’t know I was capable of until I met you.
And so today, on your seventeenth birthday, I want to say it clearly: I am so glad you were born. I am so glad you’re here. The world is better because of your smile, your presence, your story. And my world—my world is forever changed because of you.
Happy birthday. May you continue to grow, shine, and discover the incredible person you are becoming. And may you always know how deeply, endlessly, and fiercely you are loved.
