The shelter is now looking for the suspect who attacked the dog, named Charlie. The pit bull underwent surgery Friday and is ready for adoption, wrote BARCS.
“As our staff arrived to the shelter early Tuesday morning, they were met by a woman who was frantic to get help for an injured dog,” posted the shelter on Facebook. “She was driving under the I-95 overpass on her morning commute when she noticed a blanket on the side of the road. It appeared to be moving, so she pulled over.”
The dog was found on Desoto Road and Washington Boulevard in southwest Baltimore’s Morrell Park area, confirmed BARCS.
“When she opened the blanket she found a big blue pit bull. Her initial thought was that he had been hit by a car, but thought again when she saw the circular wound on his front leg. He was crying and unable to walk, so she bravely picked up the bleeding dog, placed him in her minivan and drove to BARCS. We named him Charlie,” the post continued.
The shelter staff feared his wound was from a bullet, and X-rays confirmed “our [worst] fears,” as someone had shot Charlie and shattered his bone.
“We were shocked. What kind of person would shoot a dog and leave him on the side of the road to die?” the shelter wrote in the Facebook post.
BARCS is asking people to donate to the “Franky Fund,” which helps animals with extraordinary needs.
BARCS noted there is an open investigation for the case and anyone with information on Charlie’s shooting is asked to call Baltimore’s 311 hotline to file a report with local police and Baltimore City animal control.
