Real Madrid considers changing the name of Santiago Bernabeu stadium
This pro-Madrid newspaper emphasized that Los Blancos is considering changing the stadium’s name from Santiago Bernabeu to The Bernabeu. Marca said the change was made for commercial and marketing reasons.
The name Santiago Bernabeu has been officially used by Real Madrid since January 4, 1955, to honor the famous player, coach and president of the club with the same name. Since then, the name has become iconic and one of the most famous sports stadiums in the world.
During nearly 35 years as president, Santiago Bernabeu helped Real Madrid win 6 European Cups, 16 La Liga titles, 6 Spanish King’s Cups and many other titles. He is also said to have helped Man United rebuild the team after the Munich air disaster in 1958.
Although many people are waiting for an official announcement from Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti’s team will return to La Liga on January 3 with a trip to Valencia as part of round 12 compensation.
Currently, Real Madrid is ranked 2nd with 40 points, 1 point behind top team Atletico.
