ᴜпᴜѕᴜаɩ Pattern Mutation in Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

Well, this is… unusual.
We responded to a call about a Western Diamondback Rattlesnake in a backyard in Scottsdale today — but this one had a major pattern mutation. In the thousands of Diamondbacks we’ve encountered over the years, this is a first.

Given the location, hybridization with other species is highly unlikely — and there’s nothing in its morphology that really suggests that either. All signs point to this being just a very unique-looking diamondback.
