Barbie, a sweet dog, was confined to a kennel in the Animal Care Center (ACC) located in Brooklyn, New York. She desperately craved attention and longed for someone to take notice of her. To grab the visitors’ attention, she figured out a clever trick by extending her paws through the bars of her kennel. This simple act often compelled people to pause and engage in playful activities with her.
As soon as ACC volunteer Manisha Shah laid her eyes on Barbie, she was smitten by the pup’s adorable begging face and outstretched paws. Unable to resist, Manisha began showering Barbie with affection right away. According to her, Barbie is an incredibly charming little pup who would flop around in her kennel whenever they passed by, hoping to be taken out for some playtime. When it finally was Barbie’s turn, the little pup stuck her tiny paws out through the feeding slot, making her irresistible to everyone around her.
After being surrendered by her previous owner, Barbie was brought to Brooklyn ACC. Despite losing her family, she made efforts to build connections with anyone who came to the shelter. According to Shah, Barbie loved playing in the yard, chasing after balls and stuffed animals. She also enjoyed cuddling with shelter staff on the bench, and her curious nature was endearing to everyone.

Shah had a hunch that it wouldn’t be too long before Barbie found her forever home. She uploaded a video of Barbie on Boroughbred’s Instagram account – which advocates for dogs at the Brooklyn ACC – and received an overwhelming response in no time.
According to Shah, Barbie was adopted in a jiffy! One of their supporters spotted the article and promptly rushed to the shelter to adopt her. Barbie’s new guardians are smitten with their new fur baby and have created an Instagram handle to chronicle their adventures together. It’s apparent that Barbie will be the center of their universe going forward.
