The child, 9-year-old Eli Martínez from Fort Worth, was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year and has been undergoing intense chemotherapy at Cook Children’s Hospital. According to hospital staff, Eli wrote a heartfelt letter to Lamb saying, “When I watch you play, I forget I’m sick. You make me feel strong like I can run again someday.”
Lamb, who received the letter through his foundation’s mail, immediately arranged a private visit, showing up at Eli’s room with signed gear, his game-worn gloves, and a promise: “I’ll be back next week — and the week after that.”
