Boston, Massachusetts — The Boston Celtics have taken their winning spirit far beyond the hardwood of TD Garden with the launch of their charitable campaign “Shamrocks for Smiles”, a large-scale initiative aimed at raising funds to support children’s hospitals across New England, with a special focus on young patients bravely fighting cancer.
According to the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, the campaign’s goal is to raise millions of dollars to upgrade medical equipment, provide vital medications, and cover treatment costs for pediatric patients in hospitals located in Boston, Worcester, Providence, and surrounding areas.
Key events in the campaign include a charity game at TD Garden and the auction of game-worn jerseys and memorabilia from current Celtics stars Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porziņģis, Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, and Al Horford. All proceeds will go directly to the partner hospitals.
At the press conference announcing the campaign, team president Rich Gotham shared an emotional message:
“The Boston Celtics represent more than just basketball — we are a symbol of New England. We believe every shot, every victory can inspire and bring hope. ‘Shamrocks for Smiles’ is how we turn that belief into reality for these children.”
Beyond fundraising, Celtics players have been personally visiting hospitals to spread love, encouragement, and joy:
-
Jayson Tatum played mini basketball with young patients, smiling brightly as they sank their shots.
-
Jaylen Brown gifted signed game shoes and encouraged the kids to “fight with the heart of a champion.”
-
Kristaps Porziņģis touched hearts by donating a playoff game-worn jersey along with a special message to a young boy who loves basketball.
-
Jrue Holiday led an art session where kids designed their own versions of the Celtics logo.
-
Derrick White and Al Horford visited treatment areas, delivering gifts and sharing conversations to bring laughter to the children.
Heartwarming moments — Tatum hugging a young fan, Brown kneeling to sign shoes for a girl undergoing treatment, and Porziņģis posing for a group photo with young patients — quickly spread across social media, touching millions of NBA fans worldwide.
Celtics fan communities in California, Canada, Japan, and Australia have also joined the effort, organizing online fundraisers to support the campaign.
The “Shamrocks for Smiles” campaign not only delivers critical medical support but also spreads a powerful message of love, solidarity, and community spirit. Once again, the Boston Celtics prove that their victories are not just on the scoreboard, but also in the hearts of the people they inspire.
