In recent times, international conservation organizations have sounded the alarm over a silent ecological disaster unfolding across the globe: the rampant deforestation that is causing countless wild elephants to die due to habitat loss and severe food shortages.
In tropical forests across Southeast Asia, Africa, and parts of South Asia, the area of primary forest is shrinking at an alarming rate to make way for logging, industrial plantations (such as palm oil and rubber), and urban development.
