When animal control officers found Abbi on the street in September, he was emaciated, sick and eating garbage to survive. The sight of the nearly naked dog – who was between 10 and 12 years old – was enough for animal controllers to realize that he needed more help than they had the resources to provide. They contacted the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, whose rescuers could see that there was a wonderful dog that would shine if given love and care.
The rescuers were shocked by the condition Abby was in. It was hard to believe that he managed to survive alone that way. The old dog suffered from ear and skin infections, a broken back leg and several other ailments that needed attention. Most of the things he faced contributed to the state he found himself in. It was clear that he had not been treated for a very long time, so Abbi’s new friends immediately started his therapy. “We had to give him daily shampoos and medication to clear up skin infections and treat ear infections,” said Sarrah Walton, who works at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana. “He received great amounts of love and care during this time.”
Abby went through a lot of therapy and even had to have surgery, but it was all worth it. He feels much better now than when he first arrived – and is also completely unrecognizable.
Abby needs to complete one more therapy, and after that he will be ready to find his forever family. He’s come so far, and all his new friends can’t wait to see his happy ending.
Saving Abbi: How a dog was completely transformed with a little love
Abby, an old dog from Louisiana, was found eating trash on the street in September. When animal control found him, Abby was in very bad shape. He looked very bad and was in serious health, with ear and skin infections, a broken back leg and many other health problems.
Controllers knew he would need much more help than they were able to provide, so they contacted the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana, who immediately came to the rescue.
A tough fight for Abbi
Abby went through a lot of therapy to help him get better. The doctors and volunteers at the Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana quickly realized that he would need a lot of love and care to recover.
They focused on his health first. Abby had ear and skin infections and also suffered from several other serious illnesses that made his life difficult. It took a lot of work and patience to get the improvement.
