Chained, Burned, But Not Broken — Boden’s Incredible Will to Survive After a Devastating Explosion
It was a scene out of a nightmare: a chained dog, a sudden explosion, and flames consuming everything in their path. This was the horrifying reality for Boden, a sweet dog left tethered in his yard when an oxygen tank near his doghouse suddenly ignited. Trapped and unable to escape, Boden was caught in the blast—his fur set alight, his body covered in burns, and his face the worst of all.
Most animals wouldn’t have survived, but Boden wasn’t ready to give up.
Despite being engulfed in flames, he broke free and ran—desperately trying to escape the searing pain. His injuries were unimaginable. By the time help arrived, Boden’s body was scorched, and his spirit was hanging by a thread. But thanks to the tireless compassion of Forgotten Now Family (FNF) Rescue and dedicated foster volunteers, Boden’s story took a miraculous turn.
Immediately after the explosion, FNF Rescue arranged for Boden to be transferred to North Carolina’s top burn unit. With financial support from donors and rescue partners like A Crew of Rescues, Boden began an intensive treatment plan focused on saving as much of his facial tissue as possible.
Burn care is delicate and agonizingly slow. For weeks, Boden endured daily wound cleanings, painful bandage changes, and carefully monitored medications. Through it all, he remained gentle, loving, and trusting—a testament to the strength and grace animals so often show even in suffering.
Once stable, Boden went into the home of a foster family who continued his recovery with unwavering dedication. They changed his dressings, took him to frequent follow-ups, and most importantly, gave him the comfort and peace he had never known before. For the first time, Boden was safe.
As he healed, Boden’s sweet personality began to shine. He loved being near his caretakers, soaking up affection and resting his tired body on soft blankets. And just when his life seemed whole again, something even more beautiful happened: Boden was adopted.
His forever family includes two doggy sisters and a firefighter dad who brings him along to the station. He plays, cuddles, and naps like any dog should—finally experiencing the life he always deserved. His burns have healed, but the emotional scars are a reminder of what he endured… and what he overcame.
His former foster, Shannon, said it best: “He is the most loving boy. While I’m so incredibly happy for him, we sure do miss him around our house.”
