💔 From Cold Cage to Compassion: Starving Puppy Abandoned in Georgia Sparks Outrage and $10K Reward
Marietta, Georgia — A horrifying case of animal cruelty has sparked outrage across Georgia and beyond after CCTV footage captured a man abandoning an extremely emaciated puppy in a cold metal cage. The young dog, just 5-6 months old, was dumped with no food, water, or bedding in 32°F temperatures.

The heartbreaking act occurred on February 21, 2025, in the Forest Lane SE neighborhood. A good Samaritan reported the incident to Cobb County Animal Services the following day, after spotting the neglected puppy. CCTV cameras captured a man fleeing the scene after dropping the cage in a backyard — but authorities have yet to identify the suspect.
The image of the abandoned puppy — ribs jutting out, spine and hip bones clearly visible, eyes full of fear — has since gone viral.
“It’s beyond cruel,” said Anna Ware of Halo House for Dogs, a nonprofit that has partnered with Crime Stoppers of Greater Atlanta to offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the person responsible.
Steve Hammond, director of Cobb County Animal Services, described the young pup as a mixed-breed resembling a Labradoodle, clearly once someone’s pet. “He’s now on a careful feeding schedule,” Hammond said. “He’s already gained four pounds. Once he’s healthy and stable, he’ll be ready for adoption.”

According to a cruelty examination on February 24 using the Purina Body Condition Scoring system, the dog scored the lowest possible grade:
-
Severely malnourished
-
No detectable body fat
-
Significant muscle loss
-
All bones visible from a distance
To make matters worse, the puppy had been abandoned without even a blanket to guard against the bitter cold.
“There are so many options for pet owners in crisis,” Ware added. “Low-cost clinics, food banks, shelters. Abandoning a defenseless animal like this — in freezing weather — is unthinkable.”
Despite the trauma, the little pup is slowly recovering. Volunteers have not yet named him, waiting until he’s strong enough for adoption — but many have already come forward, eager to give him the life he deserves.
Meanwhile, animal cruelty is a felony in Georgia, punishable by 1–5 years in prison and up to $15,000 in fines.
Authorities are pleading with the public: if you recognize the man in the video or have any information, please come forward. Call Crime Stoppers of Greater Atlanta anonymously. Your tip could save lives — and bring justice to the puppy who never gave up.
