An Aberdeenshire family has launched a desperate fundraising appeal to save their “bright, funny, and fiercely brave” 10-year-old daughter after doctors delivered the devastating news that her cancer has become too aggressive for treatment in the UK.
Sophia Wilson, from the small village of Sauchen, was first diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in July. What followed were months of intense chemotherapy, painful procedures, and hospital stays that stretched late into the night. Despite everything, Sophia faced each day with the same spark that everyone who knows her describes — a little girl who loves to laugh, draw, and make others smile even when she can’t.

At first, the treatments seemed to help. Scans showed early signs of progress. Nurses spoke of her courage. Her parents, Craig and Kim, held on to cautious hope.
But last week, their world collapsed again.
Doctors informed the family that Sophia’s AML had become extremely aggressive, spreading faster than expected and no longer responding to standard therapy. The words no parent should ever hear were spoken with heartbreaking clarity:
There is nothing more we can do here.
Sophia’s only chance now is an umbilical stem cell transplant, a complex and costly treatment that is available abroad — but at a price far beyond what the family can cover alone.
Her parents are now fighting with everything they have.
“She’s our little miracle,” her mother said through tears. “We refuse to give up. She deserves every chance at life — and this transplant is her only one.”
Friends, neighbors, and people across Aberdeenshire have already begun donating and sharing Sophia’s story. Community halls are opening for fundraising events, local businesses are offering support, and strangers are sending messages of love and courage.
The family hopes to raise the needed funds in time — before Sophia’s aggressive cancer takes that chance away.
For now, they hold on to hope, to each other, and to the belief that the world will rally behind their little girl fighting the battle of her life. 💔🙏
