Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is once again using his platform for good, this time stepping up to support victims of a massive fire that tore through a coastal community in northern Mexico earlier this week.
According to a statement released by Goff’s charitable foundation, JG16, the veteran signal-caller has donated $250,000 to emergency relief efforts aimed at providing food, shelter, and medical care to hundreds of families displaced by the blaze. The fire, which erupted late Sunday night and rapidly spread due to high winds, destroyed dozens of homes and left the community struggling to rebuild.

“Football has given me a platform, and I feel a responsibility to use it to help people — not just here in Detroit, but anywhere there’s a real need,” Goff said in the statement. “Seeing families lose everything overnight is heartbreaking. I hope this support helps them find some comfort and start the process of rebuilding their lives.”
The funds will be distributed through a partnership with the International Red Cross and several local organizations on the ground in Mexico. Relief coordinators say the money will go toward setting up temporary shelters, providing clean water, and replacing essential supplies like clothing, blankets, and school materials for children affected by the disaster.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell praised Goff’s action, calling him “a leader on and off the field” and noting that “his compassion is as strong as his arm.” Teammates also voiced their support on social media, with several players resharing the news and encouraging fans to contribute.
Goff, 30, has been known for his extensive philanthropic work since joining the Lions in 2021. Through his foundation, he has funded youth education programs, sponsored holiday meals for families in need, and supported mental health initiatives across Detroit.

Donations to the Mexico fire relief fund can be made through the JG16 Foundation’s website.
“This is about people helping people,” Goff added. “If you can give, even a little, it makes a difference. No one should have to face something like this alone.”
