This abandoned dog was so neglected when he was found lying on the streets that he looked like he was turning to stone.
But after being nursed back to health, the depressed dog is now looking for a new home.
Animal welfare nonprofit Save a Greek Stray received a call about a stray dog in poor condition after being left to starve on the streets of Oropus in eastern Attica, Greece.
The shelter staff rescued the five-year-old mixed-breed dog, who had many health issues, and nursed her back to health for four months.

Staff nicknamed the hound Petra, which means stone in Greek, because after being so cruelly abused, her matted, crusty face looked like it was made of stone.
Shelter manager Irinia Psarrou, 37, said: “We were informed of a dog in a bad condition near the shelter.
‘After searching for three days, we finally saw her walking on the side of the road.
“She was very afraid of people and we had to sedate her in order to catch her.

‘He tested positive for scabies and other Mediterranean diseases.
‘It took a lot of special medicines, medicinal baths, special stains to improve the condition of her skin, and very good quality food.
‘It took Petra four months to fully recover, but she is still very scared and shy.
‘Our volunteer Valia visits the shelter once a week to see Petra and try to rehabilitate her.
‘It took Valia less than two months to turn Petra into a happy dog who enjoys human contact and loves going for walks.

‘Sadly, she is still at the shelter waiting for her forever home.
“Unfortunately, Petra is not the only dog to be in these conditions; in Greece we are very used to seeing dogs in similar conditions and we deal with them on a daily basis.”
Save a Greek Stray relies on donations to help save poor dogs: rescuing and caring for an abandoned puppy costs around 1,200 euros.
The shelter does not charge adoption fees, but asks adoptive families to help with transportation to the dog’s new home.
