Toronto Blue Jays closer Louis Varland has been named to his first MLB All-Star Game after a dominant season in 2026.
Varland has been lights out for Toronto, posting an exceptional 0.96 ERA across 42 appearances. He has recorded a 2.4 bWAR and 18 saves, having taken over the team’s closer role from Jeff Hoffman back in April.
The right-hander learned of his All-Star selection during the MLB All-Star roster announcement show on FOX on Saturday, earning a spot in the American League bullpen. The 2026 MLB All-Star Game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Varland Has Been Outstanding
Acquired from the Minnesota Twins in a trade last year, Varland quickly became a fan favorite in Toronto. He delivered strong performances during the Blue Jays’ postseason run and earned a reputation as a true “rubber arm” under manager John Schneider.
This season, he has taken a major step forward, firmly establishing himself as one of the top closers in the American League. With four more years of team control remaining, Varland looks set to anchor the Blue Jays bullpen for the foreseeable future.
Dylan Cease Also Named All-Star

In addition to Varland, new Blue Jays ace Dylan Cease was also selected to the American League All-Star team in his first season with the club. The big free-agent signing has delivered with a 2.79 ERA, 3.0 bWAR, and a league-leading 137 strikeouts in 90.1 innings pitched.
Congratulations to Louis Varland on this well-deserved historic milestone!
