“Remembering Dylan: A Tiny Heart That Touched Many Lives”.

This story is about baby loss, which may be distressing for some. If you have experienced a similar loss, or may find this subject especially upsetting, please proceed with caution. Remember to take care of yourself and reach out for support if needed.

For Jaspreet, becoming a mother was meant to be a time of joy, hope, and discovery. But life had a devastating twist waiting just weeks after her son Dylan was born. Dylan was a beautiful baby, but at just

four and a half weeks old, his parents began to notice worrying signs. “We recognised that Dylan was very sleepy, his cough became chesty and his cry sounded muffled,” Jaspreet recalls. On the evening of 14th March 2021—Mother’s Day, the alarm bells grew louder, prompting a call to 111. They were advised to go to the hospital immediately as Dylan’s breathing was fast, even though his lungs sounded clear.

Dylan’s heart conditions—coarctation of the aorta and aortic stenosis—had not been detected until this point. These rare congenital heart conditions meant that Dylan’s tiny heart was working harder than it should, and his body was struggling in ways no one could have anticipated. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, Dylan passed away at just

ten weeks old.

For Jaspreet, the loss of Dylan was unimaginable. The grief, confusion, and emptiness that followed were compounded by the knowledge that her son’s heart conditions had gone unnoticed until it was too late. Yet, in sharing her story, Jaspreet offers a window into the profound love and courage of parents who experience such heartache. Her openness is not only a tribute to Dylan, but also a lifeline for other bereaved parents who may feel isolated in their grief.

“Every moment with Dylan, though brief, was filled with love,” Jaspreet reflects. “Even in his short life, he brought so much joy, and we will always remember him.” Dylan’s story is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, and the preciousness of the time we have with our little ones.
