Lahmia Mareeal Marano got a text from a pal who is employed at a vet clinic. The text contained a picture of Maxx, a 16-year-old cat, staring back at her. Albeit Maxx was healthy, the owner had requested that he be euthanized, as told by her friend. To keep this from happening, they were striving hard to find him a new home.
Marano shared with The Dodo that despite her best efforts to secure a new home for Maxx, she was unable to find one. She was devastated to learn that the alternative was putting him to sleep at his owner’s request. Refusing to let that happen, Marano drove for an hour and a half to rescue Maxx. Though she hadn’t intended on adopting another cat, Marano felt a connection with Maxx and knew she had to do everything in her power to help him. As they say, sometimes the most meaningful moments in life are unplanned.
Upon laying eyes on Maxx, Marano noticed that he was extremely agitated and kept talking. However, she sensed that he comprehended her purpose there to aid him. Almost immediately, Maxx lashed out and struck Marano’s head. Despite the commotion, Marano recognized that Maxx was meant to be her son. Due to the upheaval around him, Maxx had been irritable and disoriented. But once he laid eyes on his new mother, he appeared to calm down instantly and comprehend that she was there to bring him home, which she did.

When Maxx was first brought to the vet by his previous owner, there were several concerns listed about him. However, ever since Marano adopted him, Maxx has been the perfect addition to her family. He easily adapted and quickly became fond of his new mother, loving nothing more than spending time with her and expressing his affection.
According to Marano, Maxx adapted to the pack effortlessly and immediately made himself comfortable in the sink, which became his go-to spot. She shared that Maxx is quite talkative and can even hold full conversations with her at times. Marano believes that Maxx feels secure under her care and protection, as he always keeps an eye on her and stands guard while she takes a shower, a behavior he displayed on his first day at his new home.
Receiving a message from her friend, Marano didn’t anticipate that it would lead to her becoming a proud parent of a 16-year-old cat. However, she holds no regrets and regards Maxx as a blessing. She firmly believes that he was meant to be with her.
