While on a family vacation at a beach in Peru, a woman discovered a small dog sitting alone and staring out at the ocean. Little did she know, there was an emotional story behind the pup’s behavior. Jolie Mejía, who is 23 years old and from Lima, spotted the canine on the sandy shores of Punta Negra on February 27th. When she approached him, he was very friendly.
According to The Epoch Times, Mejía, who is studying marketing, shared that she stumbled upon a dog while on the beach. She initially assumed that the dog was not abandoned, as it seemed well-kept and had a green ribbon around its neck. Mejía believed that the dog’s owner may have been swimming in the ocean nearby. Despite being reserved at first, the dog eventually warmed up to Mejía and even allowed her to take some pictures. It was only after a local man recognized the dog that Mejía learned the dog’s name was Vaguito, which means “wanderer” in English.
When asked about the dog she found on the beach, she initially assumed he belonged to the man nearby. After offering to return the dog to its owner, the man informed her that the dog, whose name was Vaguito, was actually a beloved fixture of the beach community. She then learned the heartbreaking truth behind Vaguito’s daily beach visits: his owner, a fisherman, had passed away a year earlier and the loyal dog continued to wait for his return every day.
Mejía was moved by the story of a dog named Vaguito, who had become a regular presence on the beach, watching boats and fishermen with excitement. Although she wanted to help him find a home, she learned from a local homeowner that Vaguito was being well taken care of by neighbors, who provided him with food, shelter, and medical care. Instead, Mejía decided to share Vaguito’s story on social media in the hopes of spreading awareness and encouraging people to visit him. She believed that taking him away from the beach would do more harm than good, as his home and purpose were now there. On Twitter, Mejía described Vaguito as a “gorgeous infant” who had touched her heart and inspired her with his love.
The tweet about the small dog and his owner’s loss quickly became popular on social media. Several people responded with kind words and sympathy for the dog and its deceased owner. Mejía, who saw Vaguito during her visit to Punta Negra, has not been back since and is unaware of the dog’s current condition. She believes that it is crucial for everyone to understand that having a human friend means the world to a dog. According to Mejía, a dog’s love is infinite, and she hopes that this story encourages others to take good care of their pets and shower them with the love they deserve.
