So, the Los Angeles Lakers need to save Walker Kessler from the Utah Jazz. I can’t stand the way Utah utilizes Kessler. I’m not saying he has to be your best player or that you need to run everything through him, but too often, it feels like he’s just floating out there, trying to figure things out on his own rather than having a clear role.

Walker Kessler has so much potential, and he could do wonders on this Lakers team as a double-double machine who can give you 3 to 5 blocks a game. Imagine him alongside Anthony Davis—unstoppable, right? It’s clear that a system like J.J. Redick’s would help him thrive. I believe that under J.J., Kessler could easily become one of the league’s top big men.
Based on recent reports, the Lakers are still interested in Kessler, and they have plans to make a move at some point, but they’re being patient. The season just started, and it makes sense that they want to take their time, see what they have, and assess their real needs. Obviously, a center is on their radar, but J.J. has done an excellent job with Jackson Hayes, turning him into a solid player. While Hayes has been good, I still see him as more of a third big option rather than a primary backup center.

What J.J. has managed to do with Hayes is why I’m excited about what he could do with Kessler. Walker Kessler can do so much more than just run the floor and be a lob threat—he can play out of the post, be a back-to-the-basket guy, and even stretch the floor a little bit with the occasional three-pointer. Under J.J.’s system, where Hayes and AD already work well together, imagine what Kessler could bring to the table.
Now, let’s talk about Utah. It doesn’t seem like they’re fully invested in Kessler, nor do they know how to use him to his full potential. They want a first-round pick for him, and I know some people are eager for the Lakers to jump on that. But we have to be smart about this. Yes, the Lakers are 3-0 and playing some of the best basketball we’ve seen, so patience is key.

J.J. has this team locked in, and with the tough schedule they’ve had—beating Minnesota, Phoenix, and Sacramento—there’s a lot to feel good about. They’ve shown they can control games, come back from deficits, and execute under pressure. But as the season progresses, around game 20 or 25, things could shift. Maybe we see D’Angelo Russell traded, or maybe we find that we need more athleticism at the guard spot or a stronger wing defender.
If the Lakers are still a top 3 or 4 seed come January, I expect they’ll make a serious push. The CBA changes could force teams to make moves they wouldn’t normally consider, so you could see high-end players becoming available. The Lakers will be in a great position to capitalize if they keep playing well. And if Walker Kessler becomes available for the right price, it could be a game-changer.

But the key is not to rush. The better the Lakers perform, the easier it is to stay patient. Right now, at 3-0, we’re in control, so there’s no need to make panic moves. If we’re in a strong position come the trade deadline, and the right deal is on the table—whether it’s for Kessler or another player like Bruce Brown or Jeremy Grant—it will be worth considering. Until then, let’s see how things develop.
Anyway, this is just a discussion, and I want to hear your thoughts. What do you think about Walker Kessler? Should the Lakers push for him, or should we wait for the perfect deal? Drop your opinions in the comments below!
