The life of Steve Greig, an accountant, is far from routine. He shares his home with ten dogs, two ducks, two chickens, two pigeons, several cats, a pig, a rabbit and a large number of Koi fish. His home is a true sanctuary for animals, especially for older dogs looking for a permanent home.

It all started when Greig lost his dog. Raised in a home where animals were part of the family, the loss left him heartbroken. Months later, he still couldn’t get over the pain. That’s when he decided to do something good for himself and others. Instead of grieving over his deceased dog, he decided to adopt the least adoptable dog from the local shelter.
This was the beginning of his journey. He adopted Eeyore, a 12-year-old Chihuahua with heart and knee problems. Since then, his home has become a shelter for senior dogs, many with special needs. Currently, eight of the ten dogs living with him are his, while the other two belong to his roommate and sister.

Greig wakes up at 5:00 a.m. every day to make breakfast for everyone and administer medications to her senior pets. She then goes to work, comes home during lunch to check on the animals, and then goes back to work. She also walks all the dogs every day, fitting her busy schedule in so they can enjoy the fresh air.

On weekends, Greig takes care of shopping for pet food and supplies, scheduling vet appointments and doing all the other necessary chores. Being a single parent to at least 10 animals is hard work, but Greig enjoys it. He considers older dogs to be the most special, as they are less likely to be adopted due to the preference for puppies.

Greig believes that older dogs are surprisingly easy to care for. They enjoy frequent naps, get along well with other dogs and generally have a docile disposition. Plus, they are wiser and have a story to tell.
Visitors to his home don’t realize he has so many pets because they’re usually quiet and curled up in corners napping. Greig intends to keep doing what he’s doing, adopting a new pet every time an older one passes away. His work gives him a sense of purpose and fills him with joy.

Greig shares her pack’s daily adventures with her 800,000 followers on Instagram, showing the world that senior dogs deserve a loving, caring home. Her story is a reminder that age does not define an animal, and that every dog deserves a second chance at a loving, happy home.
