Rachel Brosnahan shared a touching final “goodbye” to her dog, Nikki.
The Superman star, 35, announced the death of the pup — one of two she shares with husband Jason Ralph — in a touching farewell tribute on Instagram on Tuesday, July 15. She included several snaps of the dog smiling and cuddling with her parents and younger brother, Winston.
In one picture, Nikki snuggled up to Brosnahan’s neck as the actress snapped a selfie, and in another, she laid on top of Ralph, 39 — the pair sprawled out together on the floor. One video also showed the late pup stretching and wagging her tail excitedly.
Alongside the carousel showing Nikki’s personality, the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star also penned a sweet message honoring the beloved pet’s life and memory.
“We said goodbye to our smiley, sweet Nikki on Sunday and our hearts hurt,” she wrote in the caption. “She was special.”
Brosnahan continued, “She cuddled like a human and had eyes that made you feel like she’s surely been here before. She hated mornings and snow boots and being cold. She hated her little brother until one day she loved him a lot. She loved snacks, the beach and sitting on any piece of furniture she wasn’t allowed on. She sometimes faked injuries so we would pet her more.”
“She had a long life and we loved her hard,” the actress concluded the tribute. “We’ll miss her forever.”

After sharing the news, Brosnahan’s comments were flooded with supportive and loving words from her friends and colleagues, including Superman director James Gunn, who wrote, “❤️❤️❤️ I’m so sorry Rachel. The worst.”
Brosnahan’s Superman costar, Edi Gathegi, also shared his condolences. “A painful one. Sending love, my darling. I do love how she faked injuries to get more caresses. Smart smart girl,” he wrote.
Actors Rachel Zegler, Zoey Deutch, Olivia Munn and Amanda Seyfried also commented on Brosnahan’s farewell post, each sharing how “sorry” they are for her loss. “Oh Rachel, I’m so so sorry for your loss ❤️,” wrote Deutch, while Seyfried said, “Dammit I’m so sorry.”

Ralph has previously shared adorable photos and videos of the pups on his Instagram account. In one 2020 post, the actor shared a family portrait of himself, Brosnahan and Nikki celebrating the Emmy Awards at home during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Shoutout and massive thanks to some badass New Yorkers for making our #EmmysAtHome dreams come true,” Ralph wrote alongside a picture of himself and Brosnahan posing with Nikki while sipping on some martinis.
“Including Win & Nik,” he quipped.
